Producers: What is it with Doctors?

When one talks about heavyweight producers with the term ‘Dr’ in the name,we immediately think of Dr Dre. However my most recent influence comes from a different Dr.

Arguably the biggest producer in pop right now is none other than New York’s Lukasz Gottwald, aka. Dr. Luke.
Although you may never have heard his name, you’ve probably spent quite a lot of time listening to his music recently, weather you want to or not. Dr. Luke is the producer/songwriter behind the most recent wave of pop including albums from Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Pink, Leona Lewis,miley Cyrus, Jessie J and…. Weezer? In fact Dr Luke has been behind almost every female superstar of the last few years!
…… And Weezer.

But seriously, before Dr Luke, I honestly thought that pop superstars such as Katy Perry were interchangeable with thousands of others, and artists such as her got a lucky break. Then I saw this:

It became apparent that these pop superstars share a common ability to get the job done quickly and to the highest standard. Having a distinctive sound and the talent to deliver it perfectly every session is the reason why these stars stay on top. Before I wouldn’t have given Kesha the time of day, but watching this clip makes it hard not to respect her. Before I wouldn’t have realised the effort that went in to ‘Teenage Dream’ but watch the clip and see how the 182 tracks blend seamlessly and focus on building dynamic rather than forcing the chorus down you’re throat.

It doesn’t matter if you like his music or not. You have to respect the pop genuis possesed by Dr Luke. And for the record, I think he’s fucking awesome. Here’s a quick look at his discography.
